I was caught by surprise this past weekend by these 1.75" die-cast figurines by Jada Toys! Among the different character themes covering Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman, and others, this Batman is officially the animated Justice League Batman, but that's essentially Batman the Animated with Kevin Conroy doing the voice work. <b>Check out the video:</b></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 18th episode of <i>Batman: The Animated Series </i>featured the voice acting of recently departed star of the beloved '66 <i>Batman</i> TV series, <b>Adam West</b>. Airing in November of 1992, the actor voiced the character of the Simon Trent, a washed up TV actor who portrayed crime fighter Gray Ghost, idolized by a young Bruce Wayne. Ultimately, Trent must don his costume to save Batman, becoming a hero and reviving public interest in the character, and replenishing Trent's career and finances.</div>

<u></u><i></i><i>Batman: Gotham Adventures</i> #3 from August of '98 doesn't tell the story from the '92 <i>Animated Series </i>episode, but instead of an imaginative boy obsessed with Batman, who must come to the rescue of the Caped Crusader and his team mates during a bank heist by Scarecrow. When the villain sets off a sonic pitch that makes all fear Batman, including himself, young Justin slips Batman a Gray Ghost outfit kept in the boy's backpack with his action figures, breaking the spell of fear. Now vindicated, Justin is hailed as a hero, and his mother comes to better appreciate the boy's fascination with Batman.<br />

I love the cover of this issue, Batman and Gray ghost drawn as packaged action figures, a concept repeated later by other artists. Sorting some comics this weekend after West passed away, I came across this issue, reminding me of the late actor's connection to <i>Batman: The Animated Series,</i> like one final goodbye from my childhood hero. Watching the syndicated reruns as a boy in the '70s, the camp was lost on me, seeing only the colorful adventures of my favorite heroes, the Dynamic Duo. I'm sure I can speak for Bubba & Chunky B when I say that while I was a big fan of multiple incarnations of the character, Adam West was my first Batman.</div>

This spectacular annual ends as Jason Blood revives from his transformation, questioning the whereabouts of Talia, who escaped with her father. When Batman laments in dealing with her hurt feelings the next time their paths cross, Jason Blood offers, "We each have our own demons." A panel at the bottom pays tribute Jack Kirby, the legendary comic artist and author who created Etrigan back in 1972. Artists Bruce Timm and Glen Murakami adopt elements of Kirby's unique style in several panels throughout this issue- undoubtedly making it a special treat for author Paul Dini, as well as us fans of a certain vintage! </div>

Picked up this unexpected 100-page spectacular of <i>DC Comics Presents: Batman Adventures</i> #1 last Wednesday at my local comic shop! This is a really collection of reprints from <i>Batman Adventures</i> #2 and 27, <i>Batman: Gotham Adventures</i> #2 and 4, and short from <i>Adventures In the DC Universe</i> #3, but fun nonetheless! The giants of Batman the Animated are all here, including artists Bruce Timm, Ty Templeton, Rick Burchett, Mike Parobeck, and writers Kelley Puckett and Paul Dini. My favorite story was "Survivor Syndrome", about another vengeance driven vigilante dons the cowl in bitter memory of his murdered wife, whom Batman takes under his wing to temper the fallen athlete's anger. Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Two-Face also make appearances- great stuff!<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Picked up this GREAT Batman Adventures Holiday Special #1 for <b>a buck</b> quite some time ago, and was delighted by what I read when I finally got a moment to read it. The cover alone was worth the price of admission! It's dated Jan. 1995, but wonder if it came out in Dec. of '94. I already have February 2014 issues from Marvel and DC!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Things start off right in the first story "Jolly Ol' St. Nicholas" when Barbara Gordon stumbles into Officers Montoya and Bullock undercover at Mayfield department store. On the lookout for a robbery suspect that's been plaguing the establishment, Bullock makes a hilariously bad Santa, and Barbara decides to stick around in case they need any help from Batgirl!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sure enough, the slippery thief turns out to be the shapeshifting Clayface, caught red handed by Barbara Gordon, who required the assist from officers Montoya and Bullock. Love that Batgirl- she sometimes gets in over her head, but what a brave soul!</div>

<br />
"The Harley & The Ivy" finds Bruce Wayne captive of two of Batman's mischievous rogues, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, who drugged the billionaire bachelor with tainted lipstick. A whirlwind shopping trip ensues, Wayne helpless and drugged, a victim of their every whim. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wayne manages to get away long enough to muster his self control and don the cowl, giving chase after the fugitive females. After a rough and tumble of two against one, Batman finally captures them with a Christmas tree- a glittering fascination to the Jewish Harley, and humiliating trap to Poison Ivy, self-proclaimed defender of plant life.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"White Christmas" is essentially a retelling of Mr. Freeze's origins, told around his escape from Arkham during the holiday season. Long incarcerated without incident, Mr. Freeze's disappearance perplexes the Dark Knight, doubly curious about the sudden blizzard that's swept over Gotham on Christmas Eve.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After a struggle in the snow, Batman corners the cold criminal, sudden pity interrupting his assault. When asked why he would terrorize the town for the holiday, the sullen man points to the grave of his late wife. The once brilliant inventor encapsulated his wife's body in a cryogenic state to buy her time in the fight against terminal cancer, but lost her due to a a corporate intervention, and became the dread Mr. Freeze in the struggle when exposed to his own super coolant. "We were married ten years ago on a snowy Christmas Eve. Nora loved the snow." the villain tenderly recalled, "I thought it... sad there should be none this year. And I wouldn't want my Nora to be sad tonight." </div>

In "...What are you doing on New Years Eve?!" the tag team pencilling duo Kevin Altieri and Butch Lukic take Bruce Timm's dark deco style to another level, their urban crowd scenes particularly impressive. They also inked it pretty heavily, making the drawings really constrasty. </div>

Joker takes to the air waves to invite Batman to a New Year's Eve of destruction, unaware that Batman is onto his plan to sonically stun the crowd he's gathered in Gotham Square! The Clown Prince of Crime corners the Dark Knight at gunpoint, but gets his bell rung instead! Awesome!</div>

This was an outstanding holiday special I'd recommend to any Batman: The Animated fan! Bruce Timm worked a great deal on this, handling the cover duties, pencilling /inking/coloring the Batgirl/Clayface story, and sharing writing duties with author Paul Dini on a couple as well. See more info on <a href="http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Batman_Adventures_Holiday_Special">DCwikia.Com</a>! It's the Penguin!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QSWwTsNVMfU/UUC_Opj8DQI/AAAAAAAAAkw/3lWUw8sSaac/s1600/Pen_001.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QSWwTsNVMfU/UUC_Opj8DQI/AAAAAAAAAkw/3lWUw8sSaac/s320/Pen_001.png" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Penguin was one of the first villains I picked up when the Batman the Animated Series figures were released. That is saying something, as the Penguin is probably one of my least favorite of Batman's Rouges Gallery.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sure, I like the character and the actors that have portrayed him over the years, but he never really was that cool of a villain, in my opinion anyway. I will say that out of all the different versions I do like this first attempt at the character for the Animated Series the best.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-caAA5INtz9c/UUC_Oacw8oI/AAAAAAAAAks/IUzIC0r_i8M/s1600/Pen_002.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-caAA5INtz9c/UUC_Oacw8oI/AAAAAAAAAks/IUzIC0r_i8M/s320/Pen_002.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Penguin here is sort of a cleaner version of the Danny De Vito version of the character from <i>Batman Returns</i> film. I believe that the Animated Series was airing about the same time as the Tim Burton Batman films. So, it would make sense that some of the characters share similar attributes. Say, like Penguin's flippers, heavy coats, and longer hair.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jRU_hFFzSB0/UUC_O9XlJdI/AAAAAAAAAk4/vXGRmWHLRig/s1600/Pen_003.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jRU_hFFzSB0/UUC_O9XlJdI/AAAAAAAAAk4/vXGRmWHLRig/s200/Pen_003.png" width="200" /></a></div>
One thing that I did always sort of dig is that the Penguin had crazy Umbrella Weapons. This Penguin came with a Hypno-Spin Umbrella Launcher to shoot at Batman and his friends. It works pretty well meaning it will shoot off and knock things down, or even function as a spinning top.<br />
<br />
The only draw back is the size of the launcher. You can't see in the picture, but you pretty much have to hold him up when it's snapped on his arm. The figure will not stand with all the weight of the luncher. I am sure you could get him to stand in a sort of un-natural looking pose if you were patient enough.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4Y-AzIA6Y4o/UUC_PMsEOnI/AAAAAAAAAlA/Xo_1aO3O9AA/s1600/Pen_004.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4Y-AzIA6Y4o/UUC_PMsEOnI/AAAAAAAAAlA/Xo_1aO3O9AA/s200/Pen_004.png" width="115" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
There is a feature I pretty much just discovered when shooting pictures, once you remove the coat, Penguin has a hole in his back that the peg on top of the launcher can fit, making a pretty nifty little (or large) Umbrella Jet Pack. look out <a href="http://batmantheanimatedtoys.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-jokereteer.html" target="_blank">Joker</a>, you might have some competition flying around for the Batman's attention.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rZCYIKJuIbw/UUC_PuFJUSI/AAAAAAAAAlM/1V0601slsCQ/s1600/Pen_005.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rZCYIKJuIbw/UUC_PuFJUSI/AAAAAAAAAlM/1V0601slsCQ/s320/Pen_005.png" width="302" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Back when these were released I had only seen one Penguin on the pegs, they must have just stocked him, because I never saw another one. Back then I realized he was sort of a rare figure, but I opened him anyway. The loose Penguin is that same figure. I was pretty proud that I had one. When I was preparing for this post, I cracked open my tote of carded BTAS figures only to discover I did have a carded version too. I remember buying a lot of carded figures years ago, just could not remember if I had a Penguin or not. At one time I was trying to put together a carded collection of the first few series of BTAS figures, so it was a nice surprise to find him to shoot a group photo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope you enjoyed this look at the Penguin, he's slowly becoming one of my favorites of the BTAS figure collection. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What's up next from me? Here's a little sneak peek, I cannot make any promises that this will be my next post, but it will be a future post...</div>

He was found loose in an old tote of toys I decided to sell awhile back, but whatever disdain I had for him before was replaced with curiosity and enthusiasm, now that I'm a toy enthusiast and official staff member of Batman the Animated Toys Blog :D It looked familiar to me upon rediscovering it because I had just bought <a href="http://super-dupertoybox.blogspot.com/2011/05/hey-mr-postman_28.html"><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Kenner & Hasbro Mission Masters Glider Strike & Knight Assault Batman toys</span></a> from the same <em>New Adventures </em>series not long before! So I did some hunting and found it was a Mission Masters 3 Mountain Pursuit Batman. All the multicolored Batman figures from the animated TV show that used to bore me now delight me for some odd reason. I love them!<br />

Initially appearing to be some type of scuba dive wetsuit, it soon became apparent that it was in fact rappelling gear strapped to his left shoulder and chest. Mountain Pursuit Batman is equipped with a pick-axe and grapple gun, so that makes sense. The grapple gun on mine doesn't fire, but it sounds as though a spring might be encased within the barrel. Some of the other figures in this line share the hooked left hand sculpt.</div>

I went stark raving mad for the <em>Batman: The Brave & The Bold</em> toys in 2011, which share a lot of similarities with these figures: simple articulation, a cloth cape in this instance, somewhat ridiculously oversized accessories, and fun, exaggerated characters. Like the <em>Brave & The Bold</em> toys, there are several outrageous incarnations of Batman throughout the <em>Animated</em> line, in a delightfully absurd assortment of inappropriate colors. Again, what bored me before I now <b>love</b> :D</div>

Oddly enough, I happen to have a few other Batman figures with green paint, so I guess that makes this a collection of sorts. This probably has a lot to do with my fascination/obsession with <em>Batman as Green Lantern, </em>and to the ever-elusive, highly valued DC Direct figure of the said character (which I <a href="http://super-dupertoybox.blogspot.com/2012/09/labor-day-weekend-haul.html"><span style="color: #6aa84f;">finally scored</span></a> last Labor Day weekend for the unheard of price of $14.99!). For your pleasure, I present my burgeoning collection of Green Batmen:</div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;">If you are unfamiliar with it you really need to check it it. Through a series of flashbacks it tells a story of one of Bruce Wayne's past loves, the one he almost married, and her return to Gotham around the same time a new mysterious vigilante takes to the streets eliminating some of Gotham's crime bosses. The Gotham crime families turn to the Joker to help take out this new would be hero and at the same time he figures he can take out the Bat.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_05.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="333" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_05.png" width="288" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<center>
</center>
<center>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Joker has made his hide out in the art deco filled remains of the Gotham World's Fair pavilions and in one fight scene dons the flight pack to do battle with Batman and the Phantasm.</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
The figure is a representation of this scene, though if I am not mistaken the Joker does not have the boots and Rocketeer style pants in the movie. </div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<br /></div>
</center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_02.png" width="288" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">I think they made a nice touch on the figure, which is officially known as "Jet Pack Joker". His whole sculpt is actually a vintage style flight suit with his tie and flower topping it off.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_04.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="463" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_04.png" width="288" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">The exhaust of the jet pack also makes a "Capture Nozzle" by taking a figures hand and jamming it in the end, the Joker can then take Batman (or whomever) on a wild ride.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_03.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/130208_btat_image_03.png" width="288" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Another nifty feature is the stylized flight helmet, that can be removed from the Joker's head instead of it being sculpted on.<br />
<br />
Of the small offering of figures from the movie this is one that you should probably look into if you are a fan of the Joker. The figure can still be picked up online for a pretty good price, this one was purchased years after the movie had come and gone from theaters at a local toy show.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: -webkit-auto;">I will have to dig out some more Mask of the Phantasm items to post, so keep an eye out, and keep an eye on the skies for the Jet Pack Joker.</span></div>

I've owned the <a href="http://toyriffic.blogspot.com/2011/04/shes-pretty-as-daisy-but-look-out-man.html" target="_blank">second Animated Ivy action figure</a> for a while now, but only recently acquired the one, the only , the original Queen of Green herself!<br />

I got her mint on card - the card was pretty beat up, but I knew I'd be opening her up right away, so it was irrelevant (but kept her price quite low!)<br />

This, to me, is Pam's definitive look. Her skin color is normal, she's <a href="http://toyriffic.blogspot.com/2012/02/poisunday-ivy-poison-ivy-animated.html" target="_blank">cherubic like a wood nymph</a>, and she is deadly cute!<br />

It's pretty simple and can be held in either hand. At least it doesn't fire neon missiles the size of Batman himself! But for those of you who did want a gaudy accessory with your action figure back in the day...<br />

One of the best character designs and re-imagined origins for the Batman: The Animated Series was Mr. Freeze. I love the old-school sci-fi/spacesuit look and the 'glass' dome helmet, not to mention the red-lensed goggles.<br />
<br />
Mr. Freeze is a delight to the eyes!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tm0dlGBA6G8/T2yaHKvBaPI/AAAAAAAAKus/iW51am425e4/s1600/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tm0dlGBA6G8/T2yaHKvBaPI/AAAAAAAAKus/iW51am425e4/s320/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+5.jpg" width="176" /></a></div>
The funny thing about his re-written and often lauded origin for the animated series: It was kind of a fluke. I mean, they re-wrote almost every character's origin story! No one sings the praises of the Harvey Dent explosion on the walkway or the Joker's gangster origins (although that one was inspired by the '89 movie for sure.) But oh my, what a brilliant re-imagining for Mr. Freeze!<br />
<br />
I kid. It was a brilliant re-imagining. My point is just that with all those re-imaginings, they were bound for a base hit at least once!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AzwIKRteogw/T2yaE7jb-YI/AAAAAAAAKuc/nlMXC_8lmX0/s1600/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AzwIKRteogw/T2yaE7jb-YI/AAAAAAAAKuc/nlMXC_8lmX0/s320/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Ahem, back to the toy. Mr. Freeze comes, as Mr. Freeze toys often do, with a water shooting weapon. This one is a little different in that the water pressure will toss out an' ice-missile,' which is neat in action and in display. And more relevant to Mr. Freeze than plain water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vzeI-qbOOQw/T2yaGEgzpzI/AAAAAAAAKuk/QYNDevG7cMU/s1600/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vzeI-qbOOQw/T2yaGEgzpzI/AAAAAAAAKuk/QYNDevG7cMU/s320/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
However I prefer Freeze's gun to be deceptively unarmed, and the design allows for you to display it that way as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5ianZMzCzsU/T2yaEL_rKhI/AAAAAAAAKuU/M6P6V6sHlAs/s1600/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5ianZMzCzsU/T2yaEL_rKhI/AAAAAAAAKuU/M6P6V6sHlAs/s320/Mr+Freeze+Batman+Animated+Kenner+2.jpg" width="153" /></a></div>
His 'backpack' serves as the water receptacle and is made of a soft plastic/rubber material. It was a bit sticky when I released Freeze from his plastic prison, but considering he sat in there for 19 years, it was not a surprise and a little soap washed the sticky right off. I have not tested it for leaks yet, but I'm not going to be squirting Batman with him much anyways.<br />
<br />
It would be neat and probably pretty easy to customize a single blue cylinder to be more in keeping with his animated appearance, and I may attempt such a thing someday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xGNaJy5rw2U/T2yaIV7D-JI/AAAAAAAAKu0/XUuIdbfkmQ0/s1600/Mr+Freeze+Card+Back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xGNaJy5rw2U/T2yaIV7D-JI/AAAAAAAAKu0/XUuIdbfkmQ0/s320/Mr+Freeze+Card+Back.jpg" width="197" /></a></div>
In the meantime, here's the cardback showing all the other cool Batman Animated toys you could get back in 1993.Bubbashelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05304403353153855498noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6203607942061415460.post-90015343599124242122012-03-21T20:50:00.001-05:002012-03-21T20:50:20.752-05:00Revenge is a dish best served...cold<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And apparently so is acquiring the original Batman Animated Mr. Freeze action figure - it only took me nineteen years to finally get around to owning this one!<br />
<br />
I'll crack him open and blog about him all proper like real soon, but I just couldn't wait to show him off!Bubbashelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05304403353153855498noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6203607942061415460.post-18928278676232038552012-03-13T20:56:00.000-05:002012-03-13T20:56:23.079-05:00Beware the Creeper!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YcMuQSqwDyw/T1_2VFRAEQI/AAAAAAAAKlE/tTmFzDbFzZA/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YcMuQSqwDyw/T1_2VFRAEQI/AAAAAAAAKlE/tTmFzDbFzZA/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+003.jpg" width="177" /></a></div>
I added this Creeper action figure to my collection a few months back and am just now finally posting about it! Yay procrastination!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G7hGT7l8rR0/T1_2SxCiFzI/AAAAAAAAKk0/z28VGXCFWsw/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G7hGT7l8rR0/T1_2SxCiFzI/AAAAAAAAKk0/z28VGXCFWsw/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+001.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
I remember when this figure came out, he was pretty much a shelf warmer and an aberration in the Batman Animated mythos. His inclusion in the show and toyline just seemed odd to me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8yHvrPjw8vE/T1_2SN7zTEI/AAAAAAAAKks/WY7ozQTfmI0/s1600/CardBack1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8yHvrPjw8vE/T1_2SN7zTEI/AAAAAAAAKks/WY7ozQTfmI0/s320/CardBack1.jpg" width="201" /></a></div>
I read somewhere at the time that the Creeper was going to be a regularly occurring character as the show evolved into The New Batman Adventures, but that idea was scrapped and Creeper was just given one episode (or maybe it was a two parter?)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iyuH_nqbq_Q/T1_2TVvQ-gI/AAAAAAAAKk8/PGcBPq5S_lE/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iyuH_nqbq_Q/T1_2TVvQ-gI/AAAAAAAAKk8/PGcBPq5S_lE/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Regardless, The New Batman Adventures made the character of The Creeper out to be a sort of 'good guy' version of the Joker, with a similar origin etc., and even a crush on Harley Quinn. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SJtGu-UcvTE/T1_2V3W8JsI/AAAAAAAAKlM/vfAIYQg-u3E/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SJtGu-UcvTE/T1_2V3W8JsI/AAAAAAAAKlM/vfAIYQg-u3E/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I was none too impressed by his appearance on the cartoon, so I never felt the need to buy the action figure. I specifically recall a lone Creeper action figure hanging on the K-Mart clearance aisle for what seemed like (and probably was) years.<br />
<br />
Then a few months back I was watching the BBC documentary '<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfxVO0fLHvA">In search of Steve Ditko</a>' about the the odd and elusive creator of The Creeper as well as The Question, Hawk and Dove and many others (most notably the co-creator of Spider-Man.) I became fascinated and read a bit more about Ditko and his creations and discovered that the real origin of The Creeper is far more interesting and fun than falling into a vat of acid and coming out with discolored skin and a perma-grin. I decided to add him to my collection in one form or another, and of the few Creeper action figures available the New Batman Adventures version just looked the most, well, fun!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6Qk-rQ-55Gg/T1_2X2JkGnI/AAAAAAAAKlU/mjqfEIH-VEs/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6Qk-rQ-55Gg/T1_2X2JkGnI/AAAAAAAAKlU/mjqfEIH-VEs/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+005.jpg" width="234" /></a></div>
So I tracked him down for a great price on eBay (what, there's not a huge secondary Creeper market? No way!) and he's now mine!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IBYE6qtymrg/T1_2bq2XwoI/AAAAAAAAKls/MJEJZxpKyIE/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IBYE6qtymrg/T1_2bq2XwoI/AAAAAAAAKls/MJEJZxpKyIE/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+008.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
Creeper came with a pretty nicely designed accessory. It may be a bit odd and cumbersome, but it's both action oriented and relevant to the character. As Jack Ryder, the Creeper is actually a hard hitting no nonsense reporter, and so he comes with a TV camera and boom mic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wlTRy0wbsmk/T1_2ZOREhhI/AAAAAAAAKlc/NSUQD7ZZw3o/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wlTRy0wbsmk/T1_2ZOREhhI/AAAAAAAAKlc/NSUQD7ZZw3o/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The camera has a slide that can be positioned to show Ryder...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TYgeadtjfJI/T1_2aUC2DgI/AAAAAAAAKlk/eOisRiwo_pw/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TYgeadtjfJI/T1_2aUC2DgI/AAAAAAAAKlk/eOisRiwo_pw/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+007.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
...or Creeper. Silly but fun if you imagine playing out an interview with one or the other.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ef9cHBV4Tn0/T1_2cGfjfQI/AAAAAAAAKl0/6QOibK3m628/s1600/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ef9cHBV4Tn0/T1_2cGfjfQI/AAAAAAAAKl0/6QOibK3m628/s320/New+Batman+Adventures+Creeper+009.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The camera shifts into a cumbersome 'gun' and the mic can be shot like a rocket. Again, silly, but at least the Creeper didn't come with a day-glo jet pack or street luge. The designers tried and succeeded in making the toy's accessories relevant and for that they deserve our applause.<br />
<br />
Sadly, Creeper did not come with an 'Applause' sign.<br />

<br />
Case in point: this Harley Quinn 'beanie' dolly. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_YJC19qc2Xo/Tvvu0W-PChI/AAAAAAAAJvU/2sqwGfq1O58/s1600/Harley%252BQuinn%252BWB%252BStore%252BBeanie%252B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_YJC19qc2Xo/Tvvu0W-PChI/AAAAAAAAJvU/2sqwGfq1O58/s1600/Harley%252BQuinn%252BWB%252BStore%252BBeanie%252B2.jpg" /></a></div>
I got this Harley Quinn for my daughter for Christmas. This beanie doll was originally sold at WB Stores in 1999, so sufficed to say I had to do some 'secondary market' (aka eBay) searching to get it. My daughter also has Poison Ivy and her sister has Batgirl...maybe I'll get those on the blog someday as well.<br />
<br />
I've been patient and wise in my search for these BTAS beanies, so I have been able to procure all three that we currently own here for around what they retailed for when new. But I do see them appear for pretty high prices on eBay quite often. The fact that they were made so long ago for a now defunct specialty store does tend to give them the air of rarity, but be patient and you too could probably find most if not all of them for less than ten bucks each. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7LN7r8AvH2g/TvvuzAArnEI/AAAAAAAAJvM/2KgYMI0T-1Y/s1600/Harley%252BQuinn%252BWB%252BStore%252BBeanie%252B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7LN7r8AvH2g/TvvuzAArnEI/AAAAAAAAJvM/2KgYMI0T-1Y/s1600/Harley%252BQuinn%252BWB%252BStore%252BBeanie%252B1.jpg" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've managed to find some more <em>Batman & Robin Adventures</em> in the dollar comics bins<em>, </em>including this well worn copy of issue #3, <em>A Christmas Riddle</em>! Just in time for the holidays! In addition to the fun art, I'm pleased that all of these I've found were <strong>well read:</strong> some kid read this two dozen times, loaned it to a friend, who loaned it to a friend... it was <em>really enjoyed, </em>then enjoyed <strong>again</strong> by me :D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fn0sCBQQa5I/TvKmESc3ZiI/AAAAAAAAD24/iRstSy5Z4y4/s1600/B%2526R+Ad+%25233+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" rea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fn0sCBQQa5I/TvKmESc3ZiI/AAAAAAAAD24/iRstSy5Z4y4/s400/B%2526R+Ad+%25233+001.jpg" width="280" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
During the yearly holiday festivities at Gotham City's exclusive Peregrinator Club, an appearance by Father Christmas turns out to be one Edward Nygma in disguise, who literally holds his wealthy audience captive! Insisting that Batman must be wealthy to afford his war on crime, the Riddler begins to call out names of Gotham's patriarchs, listing aloud the reasons why each might be the one which wields the gauntlet of the Dark Knight. Television reporter Summer Gleeson gets caught in the fray, Nygma now given a live media platform on which to expose & humiliate his arch enemy & his teen sidekick!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Picking up the news in the Batmobile, Batman quickly realizes that while a couple good guesses were made, Nygma doesn't really know the identity of the caped crusaders, and that his very public stunt is merely cover for the real crime- <em>stealing the club's treasured pair of gold Mayan statues!</em></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Dynamic Duo nab Riddler's henchmen robbing priceless statues, and confront the Riddler in the club's ballroom, where cornered, he detonates a bomb planted in the giant Christmas tree! Batman & Robin are forced to let Riddler escape with one of the statues in order to save the trapped patrons.</div>

Slipping through Commissioner Gordon's line of officers surrounding the Peregrinator Club dressed in swat gear, Nygma commandeers a paddy wagon for his getaway. But the Dynamic Duo hitch a ride atop the stolen vehicle, and Nygma runs it off a bridge in the struggle, crashing into the icy lake with Batman while the Boy Wonder leaps onto shore. "It's not fair", the defeated villain coughs as Batman pulls him and one of the gold Mayan statues to the surface.<br />

In the epilogue, Bruce Wayne & his young ward survey the club's damage, and the young billionaire is asked if he will finally accept the invitation to join in light of his generous donation toward the building's repair. Straightening an oil painting on the wall of his father & former member Thomas Wayne, Bruce declines, adding that while his father wanted him to become a Peregrinator, he never was the club-joining type :)<br />

<br />
<em>The Batman & Robin Adventures </em>was a DC Comics title that ran from 1995-1997, set in the continuity & style of the popular animated series. From 1992-1995 it had been <em>The Batman Adventures </em>until the television series <em>Batman: The Animated Series</em> was re-branded <em>The Adventures of Batman and Robin.</em> There were twenty-five issues, two annuals, and two specials. I picked up this ragged issue in the dollar bin at a local comics retailer, having never read one of these upbeat, kid-friendly little books. I mean, <strong>who could resist that cover with Batgirl flying into action??</strong> Any of you kids ever have any of these?<br />
<br />
Taking courses in criminal toxicology, Barbara Gordon returns from her locker to find the nightwatchmen tranquilized on the lobby floor. With the police five minutes away, she decides Batgirl may be needed before it's too late!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As it turns out, Barbara's professor, Dr. Fazil (now Mr. Siddiq), was formerly employed/enslaved by Ra's Al Ghul, and Talia was sent to retrieve the renowned disease & immunity expert after his sudden disappearance.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Talia proceeds to give the younger, less experienced Babs a scathing beat down, and while laying in the closet floor of the laboratory she spots a can of bromide powder. Remembering a childhood chemistry lesson, she also grabs a container of denzenel on the way downstairs, in pursuit of Talia & her hostage. Her confidence is regained in the knowledge that together these are the ingredients to a form of tear gas, which puts Talia down as the Gotham police arrive onto the scene.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pulling Mr. Siddiq to safety, Babs loses his kidnapper- never having learned Talia's name nor her intent. Writing in her journal that night, Barbara recalls what Talia said during their confrontation, about it taking more than a costume to make a warrior. Talia was right about that, Barbara noted, adding that "it takes courage & brains, too." :)</div>

Cleaning house at my <a href="http://eclectorama.blogspot.com/2011/10/hardest-part-is-letting-them-go.html" target="_blank">other blog</a>, busting butt at work, and taking care of business at the house. So this is more of a heads up for the fine citizens of BTATs and my partners in crime... I just gots me some goodies I am dying to crack open and shoot some pictures of. So, please be patient, enjoy some of the other offerings at BTATs and I will be back in the swing of things hopefully in a week or two.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NOBCJz6KFZU/TqYde10z7AI/AAAAAAAAAdc/vpektnRMbGs/s1600/BTAS_Pack_Cat.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 271px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NOBCJz6KFZU/TqYde10z7AI/AAAAAAAAAdc/vpektnRMbGs/s400/BTAS_Pack_Cat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667249596774214658" /></a><br /><br />This fine little kitty joined my packaged collection about a week or two ago, Pretty decent package, some flaws but for 99ยข I couldn't beat it.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lYMcSOCuoyY/TqYde3K4hlI/AAAAAAAAAdk/Ytmy_IGeJDw/s1600/12Batman.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 264px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lYMcSOCuoyY/TqYde3K4hlI/AAAAAAAAAdk/Ytmy_IGeJDw/s400/12Batman.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667249597135226450" /></a><br /><br />This one was almost handed to me, not so much of a great deal, but better than what I have seen these go for. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are several words I could use to describe this Kenner Turbo Glider Robin from the Batman Animated series, and they are all synonymous with AWESOME! I couldn't think of a better action figure for my inaugural post on this blog than Robin. He's one of my favorite characters from the Batman mythos: a symbol of my boyish pluck and youthful enthusiasm. They don't call me Boy Wonder for nothin', Kids :D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got this one for south of ten clams on account of his mangled backing card- I'm gonna open him anyway, so I didn't care. Robin has a cloth cape, which is right up my alley, and check out that yellow glider! <strong>Really</strong> cool!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
This figure is a Series 1, released in 1992. The head is a new sculpt, but the body is a repaint of the Batman Returns Robin released by Kenner only a year earlier. Later on Robin would receive a body stylized more like the animated character- The "Crimefighter Robin" figure, styled after Tim Drake, would be released after the show was rebooted as <em>Batman:</em> <em>The New Adventures.</em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c7dZ-mLG6CA/TpfPzK62uhI/AAAAAAAACpA/Av87jbottGA/s1600/Kenner+Turbo+Glider+Robin+046btat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" oda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c7dZ-mLG6CA/TpfPzK62uhI/AAAAAAAACpA/Av87jbottGA/s400/Kenner+Turbo+Glider+Robin+046btat.jpg" width="276" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
The yellow glider with Robin's trademark "R" on top has so much eye appeal- I had to have it when I discovered it existed! The insignia is a factory applied decal, mine relatively well placed in the molded oval depression atop the wing. A red chest plate clips onto Robin's torso, and to my surprise, he can stand uptight with the entire apparatus attached.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The packaging advertises that the missiles can be "dropped"- in reality a manual affair, released by pressing the exposed pegs down from atop the glider. It works :) Robin can hold the two hand controls while flying his glider over Gotham City.</div>

Oh I'm sorry Arkham Asylum Escape, two pack from Kenner. I have been on the prowl for this two pack or for that matter the four pack that included the Arkham Asylum entrance gates for a long, long time. How long you ask? Lets see the two pack was released in 1997. So about that long. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_004.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 235px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_004.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><center><span style="font-style: italic;">Notice Batman is "Batman" in all languages represented here? He's the Batman that's why!</span></center><br /><br />Now, I remember seeing both the two packs and the four packs in stores back then and I always thought "those will always be around" Boy was I wrong. The four packs disappeared over night, the two pack hung out for a while longer, but in the back of my head I kept thinking "get it next time, you need these other toys now!" I hate budgets.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_002.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 432 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_002.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />All that being said I have been relentlessly searching for these gates at every toy show, flee market and ebay listing ever since... well relentlessly searching for an inexpensive set ever since. Finally the gates broke wide open and out rushed a super inexpensive two pack. I guess no one wanted this one, the package was rough, but I wanted to open it anyway so I didn't care. I could have went the rout of buying the gates loose, but where is the fun in that? I wanted the whole experience, plus I needed a loose version of Two-Face for the shelf and I could always use a <a href="http://eclectorama.blogspot.com/2010/10/battle-for-cowl-batman-collection.html" target="_blank">different Batman</a>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_003.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 428px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_003.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I will admit that I did feel a little weird opening up this 14 year old package, plus to make matters a little worse it was a trilingual version and by the looks not the usual English, Canadian English, French I am so used to seeing in toy shops and on Star Wars figures, no this looks like the Queen's English, Spanish (guessing here) and Italian. But I decided to open it up anyway, if not for the gates (personal reasons) than for the good readers of Batman the Animated Toy.<br /><br />First up is the Gates. Not much going on here but man are these going to look awesome on the shelf with all the baddies busting out of them.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_006.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 328 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_006.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Oh no it's Dos Caras! Due-Facce! Two Face! This would be the Batman Adventures version of the character, a more stylized version than what appeared on Batman the Animated Series in the first two seasons. he comes with some really nice guns, a pistol and what looks like a sub-machine gun.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_007.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 227 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_007.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Two -Face also comes with a straight jacket that wraps around the figure and fastens in the back to keep him behaving. the package calls this a "harness".<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_009.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 570 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_009.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Batman, again from The New Adventures, comes with the molded flowing cape, a first for my collection. Oh I have a silver suit Batman from Mattel, but not this one from Kenner. I will admit I would have liked to have seen a more "natural" looking bat here, but he is a nice addition and I welcome new Batman with open arms. He comes with a grappling hook type device, described on the package as "weapon", that is of course over sized.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_008.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 459 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_008.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Here's a pretty fun item, you can fasten the projectile end of the "weapon" to the "harness" and string Two-Face up on the Asylum Gates for the staff or Police to find later. Hey it shows this on the package, I did't make this up.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_010.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 349 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_010.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I guess if anything this shows if you are patient enough and stick to it you will find the item you are looking for for the price you want to pay, or better, in a matter of time. Oh and this was less than 9 bucks with shipping included, if I am not mistaken these were retailing around 9.99 plus tax back in the day, possible a little more, so not bad in my opinion.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_011.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 404 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_011.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Hope you enjoyed the Gates of Arkham, I am certainly glad to get a hold of these. I had planned a totally different post (and it's still in the works) I was just pretty excited to finally get these in hand and wanted to bust them out for you to see... speaking of busting out, looks like Bats has some work to do! See you next time.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_012.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 277 px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/BTAS_toys/BatmanVsTwoFace_012.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>chunky Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04910357770955110739noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6203607942061415460.post-58249295933863300942011-04-03T23:00:00.002-05:002011-04-03T23:01:36.574-05:00Alfred PennyworthI can't think of Salinas, California without thinking of Alfred Pennyworth. Why? Glad you asked.<br />
<br />
Way back in 1999/2000, back before I, or most people for that matter, had discovered eBay, the only way to get a newly released toy was (gasp) from the stores that sold them. And then, like now, it was often hit or miss if a store was actually carrying something, even if it was a store exclusive.<br />
<br />
Thus was the case with a Batman Animated four pack being sold exclusively at Toys R Us. I had found a picture in Toyfare or Wizard or some other nerd zine of a new set featuring the first ever Batman Animated Alfred Pennyworth action figure! I had to have it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GtGwbMXndIo/TZk76MFQwCI/AAAAAAAAIE8/5lx4GSSAX-M/s1600/DSC_0062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="82" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GtGwbMXndIo/TZk76MFQwCI/AAAAAAAAIE8/5lx4GSSAX-M/s320/DSC_0062.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I cut the picture out and ran with it to my local Toys R Us, and of course they did not have it in stock nor did they have any intention of stocking it ever. Sadface.<br />
<br />
Shortly thereafter I was traveling through Salinas and stopped in at their Toys R Us looking for the set. They did not have it on the shelves, but a friendly associate looked all over the store for it (their computer said one was in stock!) and was finally able to locate the set for me! I never got that woman's name, but she was obviously an angel sent from heaven. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y8B2xZw29nY/TZk76gzl8BI/AAAAAAAAIFA/zP4The6KwhQ/s1600/DSC_0063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y8B2xZw29nY/TZk76gzl8BI/AAAAAAAAIFA/zP4The6KwhQ/s320/DSC_0063.JPG" width="272" /></a></div>Anyways, Alfred was later released with a Batcave/Wayne Manor set, but this version, as the box so excitedly puts it, includes a serving tray! Batman and Robin shall never go hungry again!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xHRSXkErxKA/TZk77HeT_SI/AAAAAAAAIFE/gfbUOrEOUQ8/s1600/DSC_0064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xHRSXkErxKA/TZk77HeT_SI/AAAAAAAAIFE/gfbUOrEOUQ8/s320/DSC_0064.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>"What's for dinner tonight, Alfred? We're famished!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U-DC7mF1DCY/TZk77lB1MNI/AAAAAAAAIFI/vlcFWAXELmw/s1600/DSC_0065.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U-DC7mF1DCY/TZk77lB1MNI/AAAAAAAAIFI/vlcFWAXELmw/s320/DSC_0065.JPG" width="314" /></a></div>In addition to Batman and Robin, the set also came with a recolored Clayface.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XjMvK0RUh0s/TZk77-cN4eI/AAAAAAAAIFM/vr1EGyaEY-8/s1600/DSC_0066.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XjMvK0RUh0s/TZk77-cN4eI/AAAAAAAAIFM/vr1EGyaEY-8/s320/DSC_0066.JPG" width="285" /></a></div>"Lobster? You know I'm allergic to shellfish!"<br />
<br />
"Indeed, sir."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dmr1OLSlehs/TZk78DtaawI/AAAAAAAAIFQ/SYk4L7--EFc/s1600/DSC_0067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="110" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dmr1OLSlehs/TZk78DtaawI/AAAAAAAAIFQ/SYk4L7--EFc/s320/DSC_0067.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The set also included an accessory for each character. Alfred of course had his serving tray and lid, Robin had his Robin jet car thingamajig, Batman has a projectile firing gun doohickey, and Clayface has a load of dynamite and a 'breakable' safe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7dOAofO52DI/TZk75udCVII/AAAAAAAAIE4/3SWnumaJu34/s1600/DSC_0068.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7dOAofO52DI/TZk75udCVII/AAAAAAAAIE4/3SWnumaJu34/s320/DSC_0068.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>"And guess who gets to clean it all up."<br />
<br />
I believe this set was the first set Hasbro released with recolor/re-releases and one 'exclusive' figure. Later sets included such fan favorite characters as <a href="http://batmantheanimatedtoys.blogspot.com/2010/10/gotham-city-enforcement-team.html">Commissioner Gordon</a>, Talia Al-Ghul and Ventriloquist/Scarface. But I will always remember Alfred and my trip through Salinas as the high water mark of my Batman Animated collecting career.Bubbashelbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05304403353153855498noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6203607942061415460.post-10440248567792256262010-11-23T14:12:00.004-06:002010-11-23T14:20:24.545-06:00Batman RelatedSome more filler for you. Though I think it was time to migrate it since it was the inspiration for this blog. I had enjoyed photographing this toy so much that I took one of the images and made a header, then that lead to setting up a little blog for fun and then contacting my blog buddy and brother from another mother Bubbashelby to see if he was game to talk about some BTAS stuff. Here we are, so I hope you enjoy this post and I look forward to more.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/batman_combatbelt_01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/batman_combatbelt_01.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Back when Hasbro held the Batman license a little cartoon made a debut called Batman the Animated Series. Hasbro not missing a beat released some of the best all around Batman figures ever. These things were spot on to the cartoon, well with the exception of all the multi colored bat suits with skis and jet packs and the like. Combat Belt Batman was the only way you were getting a "regular" looking Batman from the cartoon in the sea of goofy Suit Batmans.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/batman_combatbelt_02.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/batman_combatbelt_02.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />This Batman not only combines the look of the show, but has a pretty cool play feature, that actually makes sense, the utility belt! If you didn't feel like wearing the Combat Belt, you could remove it and not ruin the look of the figure.<br /><br />So what comes on a Combat Belt. You get the standard issue humongous grappling launcher with rope and hook, you also get a bat-a-rang that fits into the launcher and has a storage loop on the belt, plus you get a neat little set of Bat-Cuffs for apprehending Gotham City's Goons.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/batman_combatbelt_03.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px;" src="http://www.studiohowell.com/blogimages/batman/batman_combatbelt_03.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />Combat Belt Batman is by far my most treasured Batman in my collection. You know that question people ask, what is the one item you would grab in an emergency? Well besides the Family and Pets, Vintage Boba Fett, and the family pictures. Combat Belt Batman is right there with them. Of coarse I might have to grab his Batmobile as well, especially if that's were he is at at the time, no time to stop and think about these things...chunky Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04910357770955110739noreply@blogger.com3
